WELCOME TO MOSSY CREEK AUSSIES!

                                                ROXY JOY                                       JUNIPER

Mossy Creek Aussies specializes in family dogs.  We breed Aussies with good on/off switches, so to speak.  They are active when you are, but can come in and fall asleep on the floor and enjoy a family life.

The Aussies that are bred specifically for herding, are very high energy and bred to chase feet and moving animals.  They absolutely need this trait to do their jobs and to be good at it. Make sure that you find an Aussie with a  compatible energy level and mind set for your family.  Feeding your puppy an appropriate diet will also help with his energy level.  Dogs are carnivores and their bodies are designed to digest raw meat and bones, raw vegetables and raw fruits.  Raw diets have lots of water in them and range from 18 to 21%, all usable protein, instead of the 28-30%, unnatural protein found in dry food.  Bacterial contamination in processed dog foods is a real thig.  There are recalls after recalls and all dog food companies have been guilty of such contaminated food.  The latest was a salmonella contamination in Taste of the Wild dog food, that I used to recommend using as a supplemental food.   I was lucky here and had no contaminated puppies or dogs, but my daughter in law, Terri, contracted salmonella poisoning from her contaminated bag of Taste of the Wild!   I will never trust processed dog food again... I just won't use it, period.

Go to our "SPECIES-APPROPRIATE DIET" page to read more about Mossy Creek's natural Aussie diet.

Even though Mossy Creek raises the calmer, family oriented Aussies, they still enjoy and excel at agility and obedience training.

We have 11 1/2 acres of room for our Australian shepherds to run and play.  We take pride in our quality companion dogs, show, breeding, agility and fun, competition herding dogs and sometimes, have Australian shepherd puppies for sale. Our puppies come from show and working lines.  This combination creates a gorgeous, very smart Aussie, with attentive energy, just right for an active family.  Our Aussies adore children and family life.  We also specialize in producing all four of the accepted Aussie colors and patterns.  That is, the beautiful blue merles, the red merles, the black tri's and the red tri's.

We embrace a "holistic" approach to raising our dogs and puppies. We incorporate natural methods of health care, such as Homeopathic medicine, cold laser techniques (a holistic, non-invasive healing technique), natural nutrition for immune system building and newborn imprinting. Although our Australian shepherd puppies are given an initial immunity by vaccine when they are several-weeks-old, we hold to a "minimal vaccination" schedule and use a Parvo/Distemper vaccine only.  We use natural feeding practices such as "raw food" and holistic dog food, for a healthy, grain-free beginning in life :) We use NUVET PLUS CANINE vitamins for our Aussies.  A very high quality vitamin, but affordable for everyone.  A link is provided at the bottom of this page for your convenience in ordering this fabulous supplement. There is also a new page to the left, dedicated to NUVET PLUS vitamins. These vitamins are very complimentary to a raw diet.  You will find raw food recipes on the "Species-appropriate" page and the "Your Aussie Puppy" page.

Our Australian shepherd puppies and dogs are a "cut above"! It makes a big difference to raise puppies in your home, having them interacting and "imprinting" to people, cats, their Aussie pack and children from such a young age.  Socializing starts early this way, actually, as newborns :)

All of our Aussie puppies are raised in our home and never kenneled.  They are born in our whelping room and raised with us until they are about 4-weeks-old and then they move to our indoor puppy room, with a "puppy gate" to the kitchen area.  The indoor kennel has a "doggie door" to the outside fenced in puppy area.  Our dogs enjoy a "dog pack" life here at Mossy Creek.  At four-weeks-old, the babies begin actively socializing with the rest of the dog pack, outside.  They know everyone already from their visits while still in their whelping box :) This is such an excellent beginning.  Our Australian shepherd puppies learn manners, respect for others, rules, and a host of other important lessons for a well adjusted family life.  All of our dogs and puppies interact daily amongst themselves (Mossy Creek's Aussie pack); with children, adults, chickens, cats and are introduced to horses and a donkey, too.

Our Australian shepherd puppies start learning how to potty outside from very young.  They have a "potty box" with wood chips in their area in the puppy room.  After a week we take the potty box away and the tarp that has been their flooring. We fence off most of the puppy room to just their sleeping quarters  close to the puppy door.  This encourages them to potty outside instead of messing up their sleeping area and makes potty training a snap for their new owners!

Our Australian shepherd puppies become happy, well-balanced individuals, way before they leave here for their new homes.  When you come to visit here, you will see that they are not begging to be "saved" or "unhappy" at all! That is the goal, here at Mossy Creek.  We strive to create a puppy that is ready to join right in your family, with no previous "issues" for you to deal with. Our puppies are ready and willing to start their new life with you!  These are the benefits of being raised naturally, in a "pack".

We care very much about the homes our Australian shepherd puppies go into.  We do not condone "kennel-dogs".  We raise our puppies to live inside, with their owners. When they are fed a species-appropriate diet, your puppy will have no odor!  His fur will be beautiful, his teeth will be clean and he will be a joy to have right in your home, with you.   Dogs on a natural diet grow just the right coat they need; no "extra baggage".  They will grow a winter coat and then they will shed out to a shiny summer trim.  Beautiful!

Our Australian shepherd puppies are ready for their new "forever" homes at 7-8-weeks of age. Seven-weeks-old is a wonderful age for bonding with people.   This is when you should pick up your puppy.  Our puppies grow to be self assured and confident from being raised in a "pack family" and satisfied from eating the way they should; (mostly) raw :)!  Don't forget to go to our feeding pages, Speices-Appropriate Diet and Your Aussie Puppy.

Sometimes we have an older Australian shepherd puppy or two for adooption.   Don't pass those true little, (and maybe not so little), gems up!  We will occasionally keep a puppy back in hopes of adding one trait or another to our line and it doesn't work out, for no fault of theirs.  Or maybe we will just have to downsize!   These puppies are always full of love and life, just waiting to be a part of a family :)
